They can solve cancer problems.

Certain bacteria are capable of solving problems people cannot solve. They can consume radiation, produce electricity and oil and even treat cancer. American scientists from a California University decided to create a “supercell” that will do all this simultaneously. Talked to Vitaly Kulikov, a Professor of Biological Science, to find out whether this genetic modification is justified.
Bacteria are successfully utilized in many areas of human activity. They can solve problems people can’t solve. For example, Geobacter sulfurreducens can consume radiation. Uranium derivatives and other radioactive materials are one of the components of its diet.
American scientists discovered that this bacterium can feed on scraps of radioactive solids and is absolutely inert to other environmental substances. Besides, it is safe for human beings. It explains numerous projects using this bacterium Read more
New Trojan Virus !

For the first time computer safety experts encountered a new modification of a Trojan virus capable of sending its owner a PC user’s data in real time. Hackers use the same connection protocols as Internet pagers.
An American construction company in California fell the first victim of the new virus. Using the Trojan hackers managed to get access to the businessmen’s bank accounts. Right in front of the staff’s eyes, the money disappeared from the company bank account within a minute.
To gain access to the company account, an employee had to enter a six figure password into a special form. The password was generated by the system specifically for that connection. Every 30 seconds the bank server creates a new password, so it’s impossible to obtain an unsanctioned password to the account. Read more
Polanski arrest…
A surprise arrest at the Zurich airport, detention at the hands of Swiss authorities, and a high-profile extradition process that could take weeks or months. The irony is that for Roman Polanski, the acclaimed director accused of child rape three decades ago, this latest ordeal could lead to the one thing he’s lacked since: his freedom.
Polanski’s arrest as he arrived Saturday in Switzerland for a film festival honor could potentially spur on his legal team’s recent motion to dismiss charges that have dogged him since he fled the U.S. for France in 1978, a year after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.
But it could also elevate his case into an international ordeal — involving the governments of Switzerland, France, Poland and the United States — and potentially complicate his possible extradition.
“The big issue is whether it would have been better for him to negotiate a surrender when he had the chance,” Loyola University law professor Laurie Levenson said. “Now it has become an international incident and the district attorney Read more
Noise level limits…

Europe-wide limits on noise levels from MP3 players and mobile phones will be proposed next week following scientific warnings about the risk of permanent hearing damage from “in-ear” music systems.
The quality of music reproduction at high levels on tiny players is now so good that more people are turning up the volume – risking long-term hearing loss.
But the noise limits to be recommended by the European Commission will be advisory – with individuals able to turn up the volume beyond the “default” maximum if they wish to.
The proposals have been prompted by a report a year ago by the EU’s scientific committee on emerging and newly identified health risks (SCENIHR), which estimated that 5-10% of personal music player users risk permanent damage if Read more

Google marked its eleventh birthday on Sunday with a redesigned logo which displayed “Goog11e”. However the search engine giant’s actual birthday is somewhat in dispute. Last year, Google put up its 10th birthday logo on Sept. 2 and, according to the free online encyclopedia Wikipedia, Google was incorporated as a privately held company on September 4, 1998.
Google could also choose to celebrate on September 15 when founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin registered Google’s domain name while they were still PhD students at Stanford University. Read more
Dracula in Wallachian.

Wallachian commander Vlad T,epes, (Impaler), whose residence was located in Sighisoara, Romania, was neither a vampire nor any other supernatural creature. His family coat of arms had an image of a dragon on it, Dracula in Wallachian. That’s where the commander’s sinister nickname came from. However, the stories of his cruelty are most likely true. And Tepes was a nickname as well, not his last name. Vlad enjoyed impaling people (“tep” means “pole” in Romanian).
They say he nailed the hats to the heads of French ambassadors because they refused to remove them before him. He
impaled his servant only because the poor guy could not stand the smell of corpses that served as a background for Dracula’s feasts.
Once he gathered all the beggars of his area for a feast and burned them down afterwards. The villain believed that he killed two birds with one stone – freed the country from the beggars and saved the beggars themselves from illnesses and suffering.
Once Dracula ordered to chop off the hands of a peasant’s wife and then impale her because she met her husband wearing rugged clothes. This was a reminder for other female peasants to patch their clothes. Read more

Wants a bigger slice from Apple.

Eminem’s music publisher wants a bigger slice from Apple. Eight Mile Style LLC and a co-plaintiff, Martin Affiliated LLC, are suing Apple Inc., claiming they never authorized the use of 93 songs in a downloadable format on Apple’s popular iTunes service.
The non-jury trial is expected to start Thursday in the rapper’s hometown of Detroit, unless a settlement is reached Wednesday with the help of U.S. Magistrate Judge Virginia Morgan.
Eight Mile also is suing Aftermath Records, which controls the recordings in question, saying it didn’t have the right to make deals on digital downloads.
It’s unclear from court documents just how much money is at stake, but the plaintiffs claim Apple wrongfully gained $2.5 million through iTunes downloads, including $466,915 from “Lose Yourself,” Eminem’s biggest hit from the hip-hop film “8 Mile.” The publisher also believes it should get a share of Apple’s profit from the sale of iPods.
Eight Mile also claims Aftermath wrongfully collected $4 million off Eminem’s songs on iTunes.
Apple denies the allegations and says it has a valid agreement with Aftermath Records. Eight Mile has received royalties but says that doesn’t mean it can’t press ahead with a lawsuit.
The “acceptance of a single check containing mostly royalties for authorized uses, but also containing small and hidden royalties for unauthorized uses, cannot operate as a satisfaction of a claim,” Eight Mile’s lawyers said in a recent filing in federal court.
Eight Mile says it still retains ownership, including copyright, of the compositions inside Eminem’s recordings. If the case isn’t settled, the trial before U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor will center on how to interpret contracts.
Eight Mile agreed in 1998 and 2003 that “Eminem would create master sound recordings embodying compositions, and that Aftermath would own those masters,” Apple’s attorneys said in a court filing. Read more

“This is much more than an advertising campaign,” Steele added.” It’s about how Yahoo delivers its promise to the market in everything we do. Our brand strategy shows our commitment to delivering personally relevant Read more
It’s almost raining mud…
A pall of red dust blown in from the Outback clogged the skies over Sydney on Wednesday, diverting international flights, disrupting ferries and prompting a spike in emergency calls from people suffering breathing difficulties.
No one was reported hurt as a result of the dust storm, but officials closed ferry services for hours on Sydney Harbour because visibility was cut to dangerous levels, and police warned motorists to take extra care on the roads.
Such thick dust is a rarity over Australia’s largest city, and came along with whiplashing winds and other uncommon weather conditions across the country’s southeast in recent days. Hailstorms have pummeled parts of the country this week, while other parts have been hit with an early spring mini-heatwave. Read more
