The new year is better than the last.
Get rich. Eat less. Sleep more. Be faster. Go to the gym. Stop smoking. Be nicer. Drink less. Be healthy. Diet more. Be quicker. Facilitate world peace. Donate to the poor. Clean the house. Call parents. Be on time.
New year’s resolutions – with a full 12 months of possibilities on the horizon, most people the world over take at least a few minutes to pledge the new year into one that is infinitely better than the last.
Thinking back to this time last year, I have no idea what I was determined to change in 2009, so quite probably, I will make similar promises to myself when midnight strikes this evening and more than likely, they will fade into oblivion as quickly as they came to mind.

American Idol- judge Simon Cowell has decided to quit the top-rated TV talent show when his contract ends in 2010, according to a report in British tabloid The Sun, which would deal a blow to the Fox network.
Cowell, 50, has been with the TV juggernaut since the start of “American Idol” in 2002 but his contract expires after the end of Season 9, which starts in January and ends in May 2010, and in the past he has hinted at being bored with his role.
His insults to tone-deaf singers are a key factor in luring viewers to the competition that over the past three years has seen its ratings slip, and this season already sees the departure of another original judge, popular Paula Abdul.

Cholesterol and Mans

High cholesterol level is on the top of the list among the risk factors causing fatal diseases linked to atherosclerosis. It outruns any other risk factor, including high blood pressure, smoking, obesity and diabetes.
On the other hand, cholesterol is a required component contained in most of the tissue. It is vital for human existence. Cholesterol aids in building new cells, hormone production, and creation of intercellular membranes isolating internal organs from negative environment; helps to digest vitamins and accumulate energy.
Yet, cholesterol is only good for you until its level exceeds safe limits. As soon as it exceeds the mark of 200–250 mg/dL, it turns from a helper into an enemy.

What ? Women Hate in Men.

Have you ever thought something like “Men are terrible creatures.. They wage wars, start conflicts and then blame us for everything saying that all they do they do it for women. They demand impossible from women expecting them to do dishes, cook, work, and look like women on magazine covers. At the same time, men are incapable of doing anything they consider unpleasant. They behave as though it’s a man’s world, but do they have a right to it? What can a person demand if he is not capable of doing his own dishes? It turns out that even the most peaceful and loving wives feel this way once in a while. We conducted an opinion poll to find out what are the top pet peeves wives have about their husbands.
This one is the basis for all other faults since a selfish man is convinced it is his world, and you are entitled to follow him wherever he goes whether you want it or not. Read more
Santa Claus is coming to your town (video)

Santa Claus is coming to your town and NORAD is tracking him as he drops off presents around the world.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command, which monitors the North American airspace, on Thursday set up an official “Santa Tracker” on its website in seven languages to find the current location and upcoming stops of Santa and his storied reindeer.
Internet giant Google, which recently began powering the mapping initiative, allowed Santa enthusiasts to locate the sleigh using its geographic information program Google Earth and provided 3-D video of Kris Kringle flying over major city hubs like Sydney.
At 14:35 GMT, the fat man in the red outfit was in Pyongyang, capital of the North Korean hermit state, according to NORAD’s radars.
After leaving the North Pole, he also had early stops in Russia, China and Japan before heading at mind-boggling speed south toward the Philippines, Guam, Australia and then heading east toward Asia and Europe before his Thursday night stops in North America.
NORAD’s Santa tracking tradition dates back to 1955, when a Colorado newspaper advertisement printed a phone number to connect children with the cheerful Christmas icon that mistakenly directed them to NORAD’s hotline.
To avoid disappointing the little ones, NORAD’s director of operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, ordered his staff to check the radar to see where Santa might be and update the children on his location.
The bi-national US and Canadian agency’s official position is that jolly old Saint Nick is real.
“Based on historical data and more than 50 years of NORAD tracking information, we believe that Santa Claus is alive and well in the hearts of children throughout the world,” it said on its website.
NORAD pulls out all the stops to locate Saint Nick, stopping at no less than four high-tech systems: radar, satellites, “Santa Cams” and, yes, fighter jets.
There is reason to do so, with NORAD noting Santa’s sleigh can travel “faster than starlight.”
According to NORAD information, Santa “probably stands about 5 feet 7 inches (1.7 meters) tall and weighs approximately 260 pounds (118 kilograms)” before cookies,” it said.
“Based on fighter-aircraft photos, we know he has a generous girth (belly), rosy cheeks from sleigh riding in cold weather and a flowing white beard.”
By 1600 GMT, Santa had already gobbled down over 32,500 cookies. When he took off from the North Pole, he was carrying no less than 60,000 tons (54,431 tonnes) of gifts, also according to NORAD.
NORAD’s F-16, F-15 and CF-18 fighter jets have intercepted Santa “many, many times,” tipping their wings in a mid-flight greeting.

The Peanuts comic strip character Snoopy was named the top dog in pop culture by the American Kennel Club on Tuesday as part of its 125th anniversary celebration, beating out a college sports mascot.
Nearly 76,000 online voters chose their favorites from a list of pop culture dogs drawn from television, film, literature, sports and art, the kennel club said.
Snoopy was the pensive dog whose best friend was a bird and who seemed to be smarter than his human master in the comic strip created by the late Charles Schulz, who died in 2000. Read more
Pope at Christmas Mass.

Pope Benedict XVI’s Christmas Eve Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica got off to a tumultuous start Thursday after an apparently deranged woman jumped the barriers and knocked him down on his way to the altar.
In his homily, delivered unflappably after the incident, Benedict urged the world to “wake up” from selfishness and petty affairs, and find time for God and spiritual matters.
The 82-year-old pope was unhurt after his fall, said a Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Ciro Benedettini.
Earlier, in Bethlehem, thousands of pilgrims from around the world descended on the traditional birthplace of Jesus, for the most upbeat Christmas celebrations the Palestinian town has seen in years.
While the Holy Land’s top Roman Catholic clergyman reminded followers that peace remains elusive, while the threat of sectarian violence in the Islamic world and the lava spilling from a volcano in the Philippines clouded the celebrations for other Christian communities across the globe.
Footage from the Vatican aired on Italy’s RAI state TV showed a woman dressed in a red, hooded sweat shirt vaulting over the wooden barriers and rushing toward the pope before being swarmed by bodyguards. Read more

Climate Coup

Denmark’s abominable handling of the Climate Summit has been clear to all: the Nazi-style repression of peaceful demonstrators, the Nazi-style suspension of the Conference on its last day and subsequent re-opening at 3 a.m. of December 19 after many delegations had gone home and not one single concrete step being taken to reduce GEG emissions. Washington, however, is at least sitting at the meeting table these days.
One could say that the record number of limousines rented in Denmark’s capital city over the past two weeks contributed far more towards climate change than the conference itself. Far more disturbing still, was the decision by the Danish Government to suspend the Conference on its last day and restrict the word to President Obama of the USA and 16 chosen guests, while the representatives of 170 UN Member-States were denied the right to speak and told to sit quiet and listen.
