Athletes get tattoos for a number of reasons:
to have a sense of belonging,
to alter their public image,
to feel powerful,
to bring good luck or ward off bad luck,
to honor family,
to honor their team,
to honor their hometown,
to honor God,
…to remind themselves of hard times or humble beginnings or just to see how nifty the tats will look pixelated in the latest version of NBA 2K.
