Brisbane, the third largest city of Australia and also the state capital of Queensland, is bracing for once-in-a-century floods.

On Wednesday, a number of streets in Brisbane’s Central Business District (CBD) were flooded with water, and many homes and businesses along Brisbane River have also been inundated.

The flood-hit city, with a population around 2 million, is bracing for the peak wave to come. Local officials announced that the peak was expected to come at around 04:00 a.m. local time on Thursday.

In Brisbane CBD, which was out of power on Wednesday morning, the busy and prosperous city was almost empty. Shops were closed and sandbags were seen on the game of many shops, hotels and other buildings.(...)

China will help the EU

China is ready to take “organized action,” in particular, to continue buying up the bonds of those European countries that were hardest hit by the crisis.

For China, the EU is a major market for Chinese goods. In 2009, the volume of trade between the parties amounted to $429 billion. During the first 11 months of this year it has already exceeded $433.9 billion, which is 30% higher than last year.

China had a very sensitive reaction to the Greek issues. “When Greece has problems, China is ready to provide any assistance possible,” said Prime Minister Wen Jiabao at a joint press conference with his Greek counterpart George Papandreou.(...)

Prince William and Kate Middleton in coin

The design for an official commemorative coin to mark the engagement of Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton was unveiled on Thursday, but not everyone might recognize the bride-to-be.

The depiction, based on photographs of the couple at a sporting event, bears some resemblance to William but less so his fiancee.

Royal watchers said she appears much fuller in the face on the coin than she is in real life.

“This coin is of historical importance — to get it so wrong seems ridiculous,” Editor-in-Chief of Majesty magazine, Ingrid Seward, was quoted on the Sky News website as saying.(...)

WikiLeaks is still online

The online attacks are part of a wave of support for WikiLeaks that is sweeping the Internet. Twitter was choked with messages of solidarity for the group, while the site’s Facebook page hit 1 million fans.

Internet “hacktivists” operating under the label “Operation Payback” claimed responsibility in a Twitter message for causing severe technological problems at the website for MasterCard, which pulled the plug on its relationship with WikiLeaks a day ago.

Hackers rushed to the defense of WikiLeaks on Wednesday, launching attacks on MasterCard, Visa, Swedish prosecutors, a Swiss bank, Sarah Palin and others who have acted against the site and its jailed founder Julian Assange.

MasterCard acknowledged “a service disruption” involving its Secure Code system for verifying online payments, but spokesman James Issokson said consumers could still use their credit cards for secure transactions. Later Wednesday, Visa’s website was inaccessible.

Late Wednesday, Operation Payback itself appeared to run into problems, as many of its sites went down. It was unclear who was behind the counterattack.

MasterCard is the latest in a string of U.S.-based Internet companies — including Visa, Amazon.com, PayPal Inc. and EveryDNS — to cut ties to WikiLeaks in recent days amid intense U.S. government pressure. PayPal was not having problems Wednesday but the company said it faced “a dedicated denial-of-service attack” on Monday.(...)

The scanners used to equip the airports around the world are already compared by researchers to the terrorists’ weapons, with the only difference that the bomb blasts kills instantly, while death from radiation emitted by a scanner has a delayed effect.

The controversial machines appeared in a number of airports recently, but opponents of the security measure are already in full protest against exposing citizens to radiology.

Security issues, doctors complain, were being solved under time constraints, and many aspects were simply not taken into account. The main argument the doctors bring up is that the chances to die in an explosion on board the plane are equal to those to die in a hospital of a radiation exposure.

Scientists continue to scare the world population with imminent disasters. This time, the role of the force of nature that will destroy the planet was given to the Global Flood. Spanish hydrologists believe that it can occur in the beginning of this century due to the melting of the glaciers. Will their predictions come true?

Modeling of changes in the Atlantic currents that took place in the past allowed the international team of scientists to calculate the speed at which the level of the World Ocean is rising. Hydrologists believe that in this century the water can claim the territory of the largest sea powers. Traditionally, scientists blame this on the notorious global warming, whose existence has not been proved.

As everyone knows, the Anglo finance has been a cancer upon humanity for well over a hundred years now.

It is this group, as I mention in The Six Evils of Wall Street and the Suffering of Humanity that brought us the Communist Revolution in Russia, the Great Depression world wide, the Rise of Hitler and WW2 (from which they again profited handsomely), the Cold War, the Asian Flu, the Rape of Russia and now the Greater Depression.

In this last bought, feeding the world lies and hoodwinking everyone, using their good name (why they still have one is pure PR), the Anglo unloaded poison on every economy in the world. Hundreds of millions have lost their jobs and livelyhoods, while the Anglo bankers laugh in their palaces. Tens of millions have lost their lives, not that it matters to these spawn of Satan.(...)

Recently, a respectable scientific journal Nature published an article that ten years ago would have been considered a fiction and would not have been publication at all.
A group of American researchers led by Dr. Moran Cerf claims to have found a way to electronically records and decipher human dreams and thoughts.
No complicated devices are required. The entire transcript can successfully go through an electroencephalograph – a device that for decades has been used by neuroscientists around the world.

Nearly everyone at least once in a lifetime had a session of electroencephalography, but perhaps not everyone understands the principle of this device. In fact, it is very simple. When two (or more) nerve cells exchange information, a weak electrical disturbance occurs that is called nerve impulses by scholars.
These impulses, like any such disturbance, create an electric field that can be captured by special sensors attached to the outer surface of human skull.(...)

French helicopter crash

There were no survivors in the French helicopter crash in Antarctica, the French administration of Southern and Antarctic Territories (TAAF) confirmed Saturday.

The pilot, the mechanic and two employees of the French Polar Institute Paul-Emile Victor on board all died in the accident, said TAAF in a statement.

All bodies had been returned to the Dumont d’Urville research base in Antarctica. The rescue plane managed to land at the site about 100 km away from the base on Saturday afternoon.(...)

Mount Merapi volcano

Indonesia’s Mount Merapi volcano in Central Java erupted again on Saturday, spewing hot ashes as high as 2 kilometers, covering up the radius of 10 kilometers around the mountain, official said.

“There was an explosion at 00:50 a.m. Jakarta time Saturday ( 1750 GMT Friday), glaring hot lava can be seen,” Heru Saparwoko, Volcanology Agency official in Yogyakarta told Xinhua by phone.

Mount Merapi with 2,968 meters high first erupted on Tuesday, followed by renewed eruptions on Thursday and Friday, killing at least 33 people and displacing over 40,000 others.

There is no signal that the volcanic activity will decline. Mount Merapi is one of Indonesia’s 129 active volcanoes.(...)
