Latvia, like other countries, is not immune from earthquakes. Several are recorded every year, but most go unnoticed by
the public because they occur in the Baltic Sea or are so insignificant that they might not even be felt above ground.

Historically, according to both NeoGeo and the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (Latvijas Vides, g,eolog,ijas un meteorolog,ijas centrs), residents of Latvia have felt some medium and large quakes with epicenters both at home and abroad.
The data presented here were compiled by the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology, based in Washington, D.C. Represented are 100 earthquakes that occurred between mid-2006 and the end of 2008.
Almost all of the earthquakes detailed here were of a magnitude of less than 3.0 on the Richter scale.
That suggests, according to the U.S. Geologic Survey, that they most likely were not felt except by a very few people.
