From 11 am on Sunday, 18th August, an event called “Ri-ga’s Stories of the Centuries in Dance, Theatre, Music, Facts and Legends” will be taking place at the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation (Palasta Street 4).
The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation, which is celebrating its 240th Year Anniversary, is the oldest public museum in Latvia and the Baltics, and also one of the oldest in Europe.
The museum is located in Vecri-ga, in an outstanding 13th–20th century architectural monument – in the Ri-ga Dome Ensemble.
The young and old people of Ri-ga and visitors are invited to the event to find out about, discover, learn, creatively participate, enjoy dance, music, theatre art and object theatre, and to just relax and enjoy themselves in the atmosphere of Ri-ga’s past centuries.
From 11 am until 5 pm an express exhibition, “Relics from the Theatre World in the Museum Collections”, will be on show, and a creative workshop will be operating – the creation of an exhibition “Life’s Stage and My Theatre”.
At 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm, everyone will be able to go on an excursion “The Stage for Ri-ga’s Stories of the Centuries:
Object Theatre, Facts and Legends” (the excursions will be led in Latvian, English and Russian).
From 12 midday until 5pm, the Column Hall will entertain viewers with a concert programme “Ri-ga’s Ancient Dances and Music’s Concert Whirlpool – A Master Class for Everybody”. The following ensembles will be taking part: “Ballare”, “Magnolija”, “Galms”, “Kalendula”, “Ce-su pils seno deju grupa”, “Canto” and “Ludus”.
At 12.30 pm, 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm there’ll be a master class on the art of acting and speaking on the stage, and a free stage, “Words for Ri-ga and Joy”. The master class will be led by actress and teacher, Anita Gru-be.
From 2 pm to 3 pm an interactive performance, “Visiting the Ri-ga Town Councillor” can be seen. This will be led by actor Rolands Zagorskis from the “Hamlets” Theatre.
At the 11. novembra krastmala you can visit concerts on the Main Stage and improvisation theatre grounds “C(etri kre-sli” (Four chairs) that from 12:00-21:00 will offer:
•Picture theatre — a stage for families with children;
•Psychophysical or drama theatre — a stage where every visitor will be offered a chance to find out about and relive the theatre principles of classical, psychological, realistic and main characters;
•Epic theatre — on this theoretically international stage plays in several different languages will be played allowing foreign guests to take part in the process.
The Court Theatre Stage will combine poetry, music, fine arts, choreography, performances of choirs and individual performers.

Les Poupe’es Ge’antes and Les Tambours musical parade — an opportunity to see magnificent, giant puppets, listen to their hypnotising melodies and to follow the march played by the extravagant drummers.

18:30–19:15 Comedy/cabaret string quartet MozART Group (Poland)
MozART Group is an internationally well-known string quartet from Poland that tears down the borders between the academic music and hilarity.
19:30–20:15 Latvian National Theatre. Concert “Tikai ta-” (Only that Way)
20:30–21:00 Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theatre. Concert “Oskars Stroks Ri-ga-” (Oskars Stroks in Riga)
21:00–22:45 Concert performance “LIELPILSE-TAS SAPN,I” (City’s Dreams)
Songs and melodies from Latvian theatre plays and world-famous musicals.
